Arrábida is a UNESCO biosphere reserve, home to a vast diversity of plants (some rare), birds, land fauna and marine animals, including the charming dolphins that regularly appear in Sado river.
In Gaiteiros, São Luís, and Louro hills, there are many marked hiking trails, sometimes plunging into dense forests, other times offering views of the Arrábida massif or the blue sea, or passing through small villages.
The estate is a 10-minute drive from Setúbal, a vibrant city full of character, facing the Sado River estuary.
Its municipal market - Mercado do Livramento - is bustling with fish stalls, local produce, cheeses, sweets, bread, butchers, and charcuterie - a delight for shopping.
Arrábida Convent is a gem of traditional architecture. Visiting it brings the peace once sought by monks contemplating the vastness of the sea.
The beaches of Arrábida, from Figueirinha to Portinho da Arrábida, are considered among the most beautiful in the world, with emerald waters and sand framed by the green and rocky mountains.
From Setúbal, you can also take a ferry to Tróia, a 30 minutes trip, where you’ll find long stretches of wild beaches. Another 30 minutes from Tróia, are Comporta and Carvalhal, the coqueluche beaches famous for their ‘barefoot luxury’.
Azeitão, 20 minutes from the house, is a charming village with aristocratic flair, and Sesimbra, 40 minutes away, is a seaside town with a castle and excellent restaurants.
